Web Design and Care: business launch guide

Build plus care pricing, the ownership clause, change-order discipline, and selling the outcome instead of the site.

What this business takes

A build pays once. Care pays every month. The businesses that last sell the second one, and the contract decides who owns the domain, the hosting and the code when the relationship ends.

This is an educational preview. Open the pathway and select your state or jurisdiction to inspect its source records and unresolved questions. A published learning room is not a declaration that your business is licensed or ready to open.

The work behind the launch

  1. Decide what you sell

A one-time build, a monthly care plan, or both. Care plans are the difference between chasing new clients forever and having predictable income.

  2. Build the company

Entity, EIN, banking, bookkeeping, contract, and a written ownership clause. The client owns their domain, their content and their accounts. Always.

  3. Price build plus care

A fixed build price against a fixed scope, then a monthly care rate covering updates, backups, uptime and a set amount of change work. Everything else is a change order.

  4. Sell the outcome

Working documents to prepare

The pathway organizes these materials. Some tools adapt a shared master; the app identifies those so you can review and customize the scope before use.

  • Proposal and scope of work
  • Recurring service agreement
  • Client intake checklist
  • Change-order form
  • Bid and margin calculator
  • Monthly reporting packet
  • Cancellation policy
  • Subcontractor intake packet
  • Local requirements call sheet

Your location changes the answer

The Academy offers 56 state and U.S. jurisdiction layers. Depth varies by pathway and location. Federal requirements, state licensing, local use, property approval, professional scope, and payer contracts are different checks.

Use the local requirements desk to identify the responsible authority. Record the service model, actual work address, capacity, workers, and customer type before asking for a ruling. When a record says to call the agency, keep that step open until you have an answer.

Funding is a separate decision. The capital finder links to programs to investigate; eligibility does not equal approval.

Official sources to start with

These links come from the pathway's source ledger. The dates below are the dates recorded there, not a claim that every requirement was reverified today. Open the current agency page before filing, paying, or committing to a property.

Before you commit

Does this guide grant a license or certification?

No. This is business education and planning. Any government approval, professional credential, payer enrollment, or required training comes from the responsible organization.

What does it cost to start?

Build a budget for your exact service, equipment, staffing, insurance, licensing, property, and working-capital needs. Use supplier quotes and current agency fees. The Academy does not turn a generic startup estimate into a quote or profit promise.

Can I see the pathway before purchasing?

Use “Explore this pathway” to inspect the learning plan and available previews. Review the current membership and package terms in the Academy before checkout.
